About Me

Engineering Journey

Background
My name is Robert Davis, and I am an Earned Admission learner at Arizona State University, where I am currently beginning my studies in Introduction to Engineering. I am an active-duty U.S. Marine who has dedicated half of my career to serving as a helicopter mechanic on H-1 Huey and Cobra helicopters, and the other half to serving as a Marine Security Guard, protecting U.S. diplomatic posts abroad. These roles have required both technical expertise and leadership, which I consider among my most significant personal achievements. From my first engineering class in high school, I have aspired to become an engineer, and now I am pursuing that dream at ASU, earning a BSE in Mechanical Engineering. I have always been interested in how things work and have a particular passion for aviation and all things mechanical, both of which I hope to continue exploring through a career in engineering.

Interests
At ASU, I am most excited about taking engineering courses that challenge me to think critically and apply problem-solving to real-world systems. My strongest areas of interest lie in mechanical engineering, specifically in aviation and mechanical-related systems, because of their complexity and impact on everyday life. I am especially inspired by the idea of improving aircraft safety and efficiency, as well as designing more innovative infrastructure that supports sustainable growth. To me, engineering represents the power to not only innovate but also improve lives. I see it as a discipline that directly shapes the future of how we move, connect, and build.

Goals
In the short term, my goal is to complete the Earned Admission program and continue progressing toward my Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering at ASU as a full-time student. As I advance in my education, I aim to strengthen my engineering identity by developing technical expertise and problem-solving skills that reflect the values of precision, discipline, and service I have practiced in the Marine Corps. Within five years, I plan to graduate with my BSE, transition from military service into the engineering profession, and begin a career where I can apply my knowledge to aviation or mechanical system projects. My personal philosophy is that engineering is more than a career path—it is a way to serve others by creating solutions that enhance safety, efficiency, and quality of life.
